PSAC Football Athletes of the Week - Week 3

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced its Football Athletes of the Week for Week 3 of the 2025 season. In the Western Division, Clarion's Anthony Guercio and IUP's Maurice Massey were honored as Co-Offensive Athletes of the Week while Slippery Rock's Kanye Thompson (Defensive Athlete of the Week) and Joe White (Special Teams Athlete of the Week were also selected. In the Eastern Division, West Chester's Cooper Jordan is the Offensive Athlete of the Week and is joined by the Kutztown duo of Austin Leyman (Defensive) and Quintin Pfautz (Special Teams.)

Guercio authored one of the best single-game quarterbacking performances in program history on Saturday, leading the Golden Eagles to a 51-38 win over Shepherd at home. Guercio completed 26 of 35 passes for 413 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions, marking the first 400-yard passing game for a Clarion quarterback since Oct. 17, 2015. It was the fifth-highest single game total in program history. He also rushed 13 times for 60 yards. Guercio led the Clarion offense to 603 yards of total offense and 51 points, with both of those totals the best in a single game at Clarion since the 2015 season. The Golden Eagles improved to 4-0 for the first time since 2015.

Massey had 173 yards recieving and four touchdowns on six receptions with a long of 63 yards in last Saturday's win against Millersville. Massey hauled in four of QB Matthew Rueve's six touchdown passes as IUP became the 22nd PSAC team to record 700 yards of total offense in a game, while also scoring more points in the first half of the game than all but one PSAC team scored in their entire game this week.

Thompson led a Slippery Rock defensive unit to a shutout in a 42-0 win over Shippensburg. The Rock defense forced six turnovers, had six sacks, 11 tackles for loss and nine QB hurries. Thompson, the PSAC 100-meter dash champion on the track, finished the night with eight total tackles, one tackle for loss, two forced fumbles and one pass breakup. His forced fumbles both came on solo hits when Shippensburg was threatening to score deep in SRU territory to stall drives and preserve the first shutout for SRU since 2022.

White opened the scoring for No. 4 Slippery Rock with a 73-yard punt return for a touchdown, which marked the first punt return touchdown by a Slippery Rock player since 2021. He also caught three passes for 40 yards to finish the night with 120 all-purpose yards to help The Rock to a 42-0 home win over Shippensburg.

Jordan was responsible for all five of West Chester's touchdowns in a 34-16 victory over Seton Hill Saturday afternoon in the home opener for the Golden Rams. He ran for two scores and threw three TDs while also rushing for over 100 yards in a game for the seventh time in his college career. He finished the day with 112 yards rushing on 20 carries to go with the pair of TD runs. Through the air, Jordan completed 13 of 19 passes for 224 yards, including the three TD passes - each to a different wide receiver. Jordan passed former running back Rocky Rees for 17th on the school's all-time rushing chart. He now has 2,256 career yards on the ground.

Leyman had a pair of tackles, a forced fumble and an interception in Kutztown's 46-7 win over Gannon, Saturday. Late in the second quarter, with the fifth-ranked Golden Bears ahead 18-7, Leyman knocked the ball free from Gannon QB Ty Hurst at the Golden Knights' 26-yard line. KU recovered the ball and scored six plays later to make it 25-7 going into the half. In the fourth quarter, Leyman stepped in front of an Anthony Harris pass for his first career interception. Both of his tackles were solo stops.

Pfautz returned a blocked punt for a touchdown and blocked a punt of his own during No. 5 Kutztown's 46-7 win over Gannon last Saturday. Pfautz, a sophomore linebacker, scooped up a blocked punt by teammate Rich Paczewski early in the first quarter and ran it back 10 yards for a touchdown to put the Golden Bears in front 7-0 before their offense ever hit the field. The Ephrata, Pa., native later blocked a fourth quarter punt from Bryson Costa that set up a Ben Martin III 2-yard TD run. Kutztown had a standout day on special teams, Saturday, blocking two punts and a field goal attempt for its first three-block game since 1999. The Golden Bears also returned the second half kick 100 yards for a touchdown.
