PSAC Women's Volleyball Athletes of the Week - 4

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced its Women's Volleyball Athletes of the Week honorees. In the West, Gannon's Abbey Williams was selected as Athlete of the Week while Clarion's Cara Vandeborne was named Defensive Athlete of the Week for the second consecutive week. In the East, the Shepherd duo of Ada McCoy (Athlete) and Alexa Smith (Defensive) earned the honors.

McCoy led the Rams to a 2-0 week as she recorded 32 kills, 10 digs, and six aces. She had 21 kills in a four-set win over Millersville on Friday and added 11 more in a 3-0 win over Shippensburg.
 


Eastern Division Defensive Athlete of the Week

Smith led the Rams to a 2-0 week with 42 digs and four aces. She had 23 digs in a win over Shippensburg on Saturday and added 19 in the victory over Millersville, averaging 7.67 digs per set last week.
 


Western Division Athlete of the Week

Williams led Gannon offensively during a 3-0 week, totaling a team-high 43 kills while averaging 3.91 kills per set across 11 sets. She added five service aces and 34 digs, averaging 3.09 digs per set, while finishing with a team-high 50 points. Williams helped the Golden Knights earn their first PSAC West victory of the season before contributing to wins over G-MAC opponents Hillsdale, the preseason favorite in the G-MAC North Division, and Ashland. Gannon finished the week unbeaten and extended its winning streak to nine matches.

Vandeborne was once again dominant on defense, contributing to two Golden Eagles wins and making history in the process. The freshman averaged 2.63 blocks per set, totaling 21 blocks in matches against Slippery Rock and Findlay. After putting up six total blocks in a three-set win over The Rock, Vandeborne set a program record with 13 blocks in the five-set win over the Oilers. She leads the PSAC with an average of 1.49 blocks per set.
