SEATTLE, Wash. --- The Edinboro Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams, along with the Lock Haven Women’s Cross Country team, concluded their seasons at the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships Saturday. They were also joined by three individual competitors in Jonathan Thrush, Marianne Abdalah and Malia Anderson.
On the men’s side, Edinboro placed 30th as a team led by Ward Ries. Ries tallied 88 points finishing 109th with a 10K time of 31.22.5.
He was followed by teammates Eric Alu and Connor Volk-Klos who were 161st and 162nd, respectively.
Thrush, from California (Pa.), finished 177th with a 10K time of 32:10.5.
For the women, Edinboro came in 27th, while Lock Haven placed 31st.
Boro was led by Kylie Anicic who finished 31st in a field of over 250 runners. She ran a time of 21:14.1 in the 6K race. Her teammate Kimberly Goerss also cracked the top-100 placing 91st running a 21:58.0.
For the Bald Eagles, Elaina Klinger was their top performer, placing 127th running a 22:22.1. Behind her was Krista Jones placing 160th running a 22:47.2 6K
Individually, Marianne Abdalah of Slippery Rock ran a 22:07.2 6K placing 105th, while Malia Anderson of California (Pa.) was right behind her placing a 111th running a 22:11.6.

MANSFIELD, Pa. --- The Edinboro University men’s and women’s cross country teams, along with the Lock Haven University women’s squad will advance to the 2022 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships in Seattle, Washington, December 2. They earned guaranteed their spots with top-3 finishes Saturday from the Lamb's Creek Cross Country Course in Mansfield, Pennsylvania.
The Edinboro men’s squad placed second in the men’s Atlantic Region Championships earning an automatic bid to the DII Championships.
Edinboro followed Atlantic Region Champions, Charleston (W.Va.) who finished with 33 overall points to Boro’s 47.
The Fighting Scots were paced by fourth-place finisher Ward Ries who ran a 29:31.3. He was followed on his team by eighth-place finisher, Connor Volk-Klos who ran a 29:41.3
Other PSAC notables were California (Pa.)’s was Jonathan Thrush (6th, 29:35.8) and Slippery Rock’s Troy Hart (16th, 30:13.9.
On the women’s side, the Edinboro squad placed second overall with 84 points behind Charleston (W.Va.) as the Atlantic Region Champions who finished with 52 points.
Boro’s Kylie Anicic was the 2022 Atlantic Region Individual Champion as she breezed past the competition running a 21:07.05. She was followed by her teammate Kimberly Goerss who ran a 21:25.7
Lock Haven placed third as a squad also earning a shot into the DII National Championships. LHU finished with 136 points and had Elaina Klinger place sixth with a time of 22:03.5 as her teammate Krista Jones finished three spots behind coming in ninth with a time of 22:20.6.
Other individual notables from the PSAC were Marianne Abdalah of Slippery Rock who ran a 22:00.4 for a fifth-place finish, while Hannah Smrcka placed fourth with a time of 21:58.1.
The Edinboro men and women along with the Lock Haven women have guaranteed their spots in the DII Cross Country National Championships, while 10 at-large selections will be announced (Nov. 21). Additional individual at-large selections will be announced by the NCAA after the 34 teams in both the men's and women's the field are finalized. INDIANAPOLIS --- The NCAA Atlantic Region Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championship Meet will take place Saturday, November 19 at the Lamb’s Creek Cross Country Course in Mansfield, Pennsylvania.
Mansfield University will host this event, having recently hosted the 2022 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships November 5.
Both Edinboro men’s and women’s cross country teams come in as PSAC favorites, fresh off a PSAC Championship sweep.
As for the region on the men’s side, Charleston (W.Va.) is the regional favorite and looking for the AQ into the NCAA Championship Meet.
The Edinboro men are second in the region followed by Concord (N.C.). Also in the hunt is Shippensburg and Davis & Elkins.
As for the women, Charleston (W.Va.) is also the favorite for the women, and they are followed by Edinboro as well.
Edinboro battled Seton Hill for the PSAC Championship, and the Griffins follow as the third-favorite. Behind Seton Hill are Lock Haven and Slippery Rock.
However, it is a toss-up in the region due to the 2-5 seeds in the regional rankings thanks to Edinboro winning the PSAC title.
For the races on Saturday, the men will begin their 10K race at 11:30 a.m. and the women will run their 6K race at 12:45 p.m.
