Gannon completes play at 2023 NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships

The four-time defending PSAC champion competed in the 2023 NCAA East Regional at Panther Creek Golf Club in Springfield, Ill.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - The Gannon University women's golf team had its best day of the week at the 2023 NCAA Division II Women's Golf East Regional, finishing with a 309 (+21), including incredibly impressive rounds from Sarah White (a one-over-par 73) and Ana Maestro (a three-over-par 75.) Sophomore Ditte Petersen was the highest-finishing Golden Knight on the leaderboard, ending the tournament tied for 42nd place with a three-day total of 237, including a third-round 79 (+7). Defending NCAA Division II national champion Findlay finished at the top of the leaderboard and shot a combined two-under-par 862 for the tournament.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - The Gannon University women's golf team shot four strokes better as a team in the second round of the 2023 NCAA Division II Women's Golf East Regional than they did in the first round, logging a combined 327 (+39) to finish in 15th place in the team standings with one more round of play remaining. Ditte Petersen is the Golden Knight highest on the leaderboard after carding a nine-over-par 81 in the second round, finishing with a two-day total of 158 (+14) to sit in a tie for 39th place. The Gannon University women's golf team opened up play at the 2023 NCAA Division II Women's Golf East Regional and sit in 14th place in the leaderboard after the first round of play. The Golden Knights shot a combined 331 (+43). Ditte Petersen, the 2023 PSAC Women's Golf individual champion, shot a five-over-par 77 to end the day tied for 25th place. Ana Maestro (79, +7) is tied for 36th place to join Petersen in the Top 40. The University of Indianapolis' Anci Dy sits atop the individual leaderboard after shooting a three-under-par 69 in the first round, while Findlay (the defending Division II National Champion) leads the team standings with a combined 284 (-4).

INDIANAPOLIS - The Gannon University women's golf team, coming off a victory in last Sunday's 2023 PSAC Women's Golf Championship, has been selected to compete in the 2023 NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships, as announced by the NCAA on Monday evening. The Golden Knights are one of 15 teams and six individuals selected to compete in the East Regional at Panther Creek Golf Club in Springfield, Illinois from May 8-10.

All participants will compete through the 54 holes of competition. The top three (central), five (south), four (west) and six (east) teams along with the top two individuals not on an advancing team will advance to the national championships, held on May 16-20 at Fox Run Golf Club in Eureka, Mo.

Gannon's Ditte Petersen earned the 2023 PSAC Women's Golf individual championship at last weekend's PSAC Championship, with the Knights placing four total golfers in the top six--Andrea Martinez in second, Ana Maestro tied for third, and 2022 PSAC individual champion Sarah White in sixth. Gannon won the PSAC team championship--its fourth in a row--by 34 strokes.
