LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced the 2024 Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Major Award winners on Thursday afternoon.
The awards are determined by a vote of the conference’s head coaches. The top three finishers in each event at the 2024 PSAC Outdoor Championships are recognized as all-conference performers. Find complete results here.
Track Athlete of the Year – Drew Dailey, Shippensburg
Field Athlete of the Year – Joshua Herbster, Shippensburg
Freshman of the Year – Drew Layton, Slippery Rock
Coaching Staff of the Year – Shippensburg
Shippensburg’s Drew Dailey was voted Track Athlete of the Year after finishing fifth in the nation in the 800m run and becoming an NCAA Division II First Team All-American. He was also the 2024 PSAC champion in the 800m and added a runner-up finish as part of the 4x400 relay team. He is the Shippensburg University record holder in the 800m with a time of 1:48.67.
Another Raider, Joshua Herbster, was selected as Field Athlete of the Year. He finished third in Division II in the hammer throw to become a First Team All-American and is the PSAC’s all-time record holder in the event with a distance of 66.93m, which he achieved at the 2024 Outdoor meet—where he also was a champion of the event. He earned All-Conference status in the discus at that meet (third place, 52.71m) and was fifth in the shot put (16.31m).
Slippery Rock’s Drew Layton collects the Freshman of the Year honor after a breakout first season that saw him become a Second Team All-American with a 10
th place finish in the pole vault at the NCAA Division II Championships. He was second in that event at the PSAC Championships, clearing 4.96m.
The Shippensburg coaching staff was once again honored with the Coaching Staff of the Year award. The Raiders, led by head coach Dave Osanitsch, claimed its 15
th consecutive PSAC outdoor championship. The team scored in all 21 events at that meet, winning nine, and boasted 20 All-PSAC individual finishers. Shippensburg has now won a PSAC-leading 31 Outdoor Track and Field conference titles.
