Pitt-Johnstown's Vance runner-up at 285 pounds, 7 other PSAC wrestlers earn All-America honors at NCAA Division II Wrestling Championship

DAY 2 RESULTS

INDIANAPOLIS -
Pitt-Johnstown heavyweight Isaiah Vance earned second place in the 285 pound bracket and multiple other PSAC wrestlers ended with wins on the final day of the 2025 NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships. Vance opened with a semifinal win but fell in the title bout, 3-2, in a first period tiebreak.

Kutztown's Matthew Weinberg earned third place at 184 with a first period fall in just 1:44 over Central Missouri's Damon Ashworth, while two more heavyweights excelled in the 285 pound bracket: Gannon's Dorian Crosby wrestled back to secure third place and KU's Freddie Retter (who had upset the top seed in the bracket earlier in the tournament) won his final bout to earn fifth place. Gannon's Jerry Echevarria wrestled back to win seventh place in the 133 pound bracket.

Those wrestlers join KU's Dalton Gimbor and Bailey Gimbor and Pitt-Johnstown's Trevon Gray as the conference's All-Americans in 2025.
 

DAY 1 RESULTS

INDIANAPOLIS -
Three PSAC wrestlers are still alive in the championship brackets at the 2025 NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships. In the 285 pound bracket, Kutztown's Freddie Retter and Isaiah Vance will wrestle each other for a spot in the title bout. Retter upended top seed Crew Howard from Neb.-Kearney, 8-2, in his first bout of the day and added a decision over Colorado Mesa's Tyler Doyle, 5-2, to get into the semis. Vance also earned two decisions (9-6 over UIndy's Cale Gray and 8-2 over Gannon's Dorian Crosby) to stay alive into Day 2.

The third PSAC student-athlete into the semis is Kutztown's Matt Weinberg, who earned a pair of major decisions (12-3 over McKendree's Zeke Waltz and 9-0 over Brayden Mirjavadi) and will face Chadron St.'s Keegan Gehlhausen in tomorrow's bout.

Other PSAC wrestlers still alive in the consolation brackets (and earning All-America honors) include Gannon's Jerry Echevarria (133 pounds), Crosby (285 pounds), Pitt-Johnstown's Trevon Gray (125 pounds), and Kutztown's Bailey Gimbor (165 pounds) and Dalton Gimbor (174 pounds).

Kutztown is currently tied for fourth in the team standings with 32.5 points, followed by Gannon (14th place, 22.0 points) and Pitt-Johnstown (18th, 17.5).
 

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – After a busy day of competition at the NCAA Division II Super Region 1 Championship, hosted by Fairmont State University, 23 wrestlers from PSAC institutions secured top-3 finishes in the brackets to advance to the upcoming 2025 NCAA Division II Wrestling Championship.

The Pitt-Johnstown Mountain Cats battled both Gannon and Kutztown down to the wire for the overall team title, but it was UPJ holding on to win its 26th NCAA Regional crown after totaling 148 points, ahead of Gannon’s 141.5 and KU’s 122.

Gannon boasted nine total national qualifiers with two individual champions, while UPJ claimed five qualifiers with three individual champions. Six wrestlers from Kutztown also qualified (including PSAC Football Eastern Division Defensive Player of the Year Freddie Retter at 285 pounds), with two Golden Bears winning titles (Bailey Gimbor at 165 and Matt Weinberg at 184).  Millersville sends a pair to nationals in Bryce Beatty (third at 125) and Nicholas Cottone (first at 141) while Seton Hill sends Mike Zacur (who took home first place in the 157-pound bracket.)
