LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced its Golf Athletes of the Week. For Men's Golf, California's Chaz Ekoniak was named Athlete of the Week. For Women's Golf, Gannon's Anastasia Lopes was recognized.

Ekoniak fired an eight-under 134 (66-68) to earn medalist honors for the first time in his career, as he helped the Vulcans capture the tournament title at the season-opening Wheeling Invitational on Friday. He won the event by two strokes after totaling 11 birdies, including a combined seven birdies on the back nine, while at Belmont Hills Country Club. Ekoniak is the first California golfer in at least 15 years to record a 36-hole score lower than 140 (his previous collegiate 36-hole best was 147).

In her first collegiate tournament, Lopes led Gannon to a record-setting first-place showing in the UC Invitational hosted by Charleston. Lopes shot a pair of 73’s over the par-71 layout at Edgewood CC. Her opening round included one birdie and three bogies. On day two she had two birdies and four bogies. Lopes finished as the runner-up to Charleston’s Lucia Martin (+1) with a 146 (+4) total. Gannon won the tournament by six strokes over Charleston and in the process set a school-record for lowest 36-hole total at 595, breaking the previous record by four strokes.
