Anicic, Hennett, Over earn 2023 PSAC Women's Cross Country Major Awards

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced the major award winners for the 2023 women's cross country season on Thursday afternoon. Edinboro's Kylie Anicic was selected as Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive season while East Stroudsburg's Brianna Hennett earned Freshman of the Year honors. Slippery Rock's Bobby Over was named Coach of the Year after guiding The Rock to a top team finish at the 2023 PSAC Championship Meet.

All awards were determined by a vote of the league's head coaches.

Anicic put together another dominant season that culminated in a 12th place finish at the NCAA Championship meet to earn First Team All-America honors and improved on her 31st place finish from 2022. This season she was both the NCAA Atlantic Region and PSAC champion, winning both of those races for the second season in a row.

East Stroudsburg's Hennett debuted with a string of strong finishes and was the highest-finishing freshman (and fifth place overall) at the PSAC meet. She also placed seventh at the NCAA Atlantic Regional (and was also the highest finishing freshman) and followed up that performance with an 88th-place finish at the NCAA Championship meet, where she was the only PSAC freshman to compete and the only ESU freshman to ever qualify individually for the national meet.

Under Over's leadership, the Slippery Rock women's cross country team finished in first place to become PSAC champions in dominant fashion, with all five scoring runners finishing in the top 20. The win came after back-to-back fourth-place showings in both 2021 and 2022 at the PSAC meet. The Rock used the momentum from the PSAC Championship to finish second at the NCAA Atlantic Regional, earning qualification to the national meet. At the NCAA Championships, Slippery Rock finished a respectable 31st overall.
