Weidman entered Saturday with career totals of 21 carries and 93 rushing yards in 16 collegiate games as a running back. He finished it with a day to remember against West Chester. Weidman had 23 carries, 168 yards and the first 4 TDs of his career in SU's 43-24 win - its largest over West Chester since 1921. Saturday marked the first time a Raider totaled four rushing touchdowns in a single game in 21 years, dating back to John Kuhn having a 5-TD game at Clarion on Oct. 23, 2004. He keyed an SU rushing attack that ran for 274 yards; the most rushing yards in a single game by the Raiders in eight years, dating back to the final game of the 2017 regular season (326 yards in a 51-13 win over Seton Hill). Weidman had three straight scores in a 12-minute span of the second half. He only had one negative rush. His fourth and final touchdown was a 60-yard score in the fourth quarter.
PSAC Eastern Division Defensive Athlete of the Week
Raquane Matthews
East Stroudsburg
Safety
Redshirt Sophomore
Lanham, Md. / Eleanor Roosevelt
Matthews led a game-defining shift in East Stroudsburg's 45-21 win over Millersville Saturday night, picking up two interceptions on back-to-back drives and leading ESU with nine tackles. With the game tied 14-14 early in the second quarter, Matthews came up with two turnovers to quickly shift momentum in the Warriors' favor, setting up scoring drives for East Stroudsburg to go from trailing 14-7 to leading 28-14 in the span of 3:40. Matthews now leads the Warriors with interceptions on the season with three, and also was the first Warrior to record a multi-interception game of the season. The redshirt sophomore's two takeaways were also part of three straight interceptions forced by ESU, the first time the Warriors picked off an opposing quarterback on three consecutive drives since 2009.
PSAC Eastern Division Special Teams Athlete of the Week
Ty Neal
Shippensburg
Wide Receiver
Sophomore
Harrisburg, Pa. / C.D. East
Neal returned a punt 70 yards for a touchdown to create the final margin in SU's 43-14 win over West Chester last Saturday. It capped a 20-point fourth quarter for the Raiders and marked the first touchdown for the Raiders from a punt return since Cole Chiappialle had a 79-yarder at Millersville on Oct. 22, 2016. SU had 53 punt return yards for the season entering Saturday (31 by Neal) and had just 62 punt return yards in the entire 2024 season (all by Neal) prior to Neal's 70-yard score. SU's touchdown was its first of any kind on a punt since Oct. 8 2022 in a 20-13 comeback win at West Chester in which it blocked a punt that was recovered in the end zone for a TD. The Raiders wrapped up PSAC East play Saturday with its largest margin of victory over West Chester since the inaugural meeting between the teams 104 years ago, as the Raiders scored 29 unanswered points in the second half to claim a 43-14 victory over the Golden Rams.
