West Chester scores in 85th minute to defeat Shepherd, 1-0, to become 2025 NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Champion

ATLANTIC REGION CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

West Chester defeats Shepherd, 1-0


After going scoreless for 85 minutes, West Chester finally put a goal in to take the lead and eventually the game in the 2025 NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Championship Game. A cross floated into the box, took a slight deflection, and dropped perfectly for Kianna Barber to slot home. Shepherd led the game in shots 17-10 but both teams had five shots on goal. WCU now advances to the Elite Eight and will face Franklin Pierce next Saturday, Dec. 6 with a spot in the national semifinals on the line.
 

ATLANTIC REGION SEMIFINAL RESULTS 

Shepherd defeats Gannon, 4-0


The Shepherd Rams bested Gannon, 4-0 on their home field to book a spot in the 2025 NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Atlantic Region Championship Game. Anaya Lozano opened the scoring in the 41st minute to make it 1-0 at the half, but then the Rams added three more goals in the second half: from Merritt Delk in the 70th minute, another from Lozano in the 79th, and Lydia Gable in the 81st. Shepherd returns to the Atlantic Region title game for the second straight year -- they defeated Gannon 1-0 in 2024 to win it last season.

West Chester defeats Fairmont State, 2-0

West Chester blanked the MEC's Fairmont State, 2-0, to advance to face Shepherd in the Atlantic Region title game. Lindsey Balmer scored in the 32nd minute from an assist by Faith Matter, and Victoria Pungello added an insurance goal (on another Matter assist) in the 84th. West Chester and Shepherd will meet next Sunday, Nov. 30 with the Atlantic Region title on the line. 

 

ATLANTIC REGION FIRST ROUND RESULTS

West Chester defeats West Virginia State, 5-2

Gannon defeats Bloomsburg, 2-0

Fairmont St. defeats Kutztown, 2-1

 

INDIANAPOLIS – Five Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference women’s soccer programs were selected to compete in the 2025 NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer Championship, the NCAA announced Monday evening: Shepherd, West Chester, Kutztown, Gannon, and Bloomsburg.
 
The 2025 NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer Championship features 56 teams and begins on Friday, Nov. 21.
 
The No. 1 seed in the Atlantic Region is two-time defending PSAC champion Shepherd (11-1-6 overall), which earns a first-round bye. The Rams bested Kutztown in last Sunday's PSAC title game, 4-1, and will host the winner of No. 4 seed Gannon (15-2-2 overall) and No. 5 seed Bloomsburg (10-6-2 overall).

The other host in the Atlantic Region is No. 2 seed West Chester (13-2-4 overall), which opens up the NCAA tournament against No. 7 seed West Virginia St. No. 3 seed Kutztown will return to West Chester for the second consecutive weekend, this time to face No. 6 seed Fairmont St. in the Atlantic Region quarterfinals.
