Gannon Women's Basketball ends season with loss to top seed Grand Valley State in 2025 NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Elite Eight

ELITE EIGHT

The Gannon Golden Knights concluded their season on Monday evening in the 2025 NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Elite Eight with a 60-32 loss to No. 1 seed Grand Valley State. Gannon held Grand Valley to just 22 points in the first half and trailed by just four, 22-18, at the break -- but the Lakers pulled away in the second half to advance to the Final Four.

Gannon's Bri Claxon led the team with 15 points and five rebounds, while Mia Slater added 10 boards and chipped in with four points. Grand Valley's Rylie Bisballe led all scorers with 17 points and 14 rebounds.
 

ATLANTIC REGION CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

EDINBORO, Pa. -
The Gannon Golden Knights are headed to the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Elite Eight for the second consecutive season after a 72-59 victory over fellow PSAC West competitor IUP. Gannon, the No. 2 seed in the bracket, relied on three players who scored in double figures: Bri Claxon (a game-high 19 points, six rebounds, three steals), Kate Ratliff (18 points, seven rebounds, three blocks) and Mia Slater (14 points, six rebounds.)

No. 4 seed IUP, who had ousted top seed and host Edinboro in Saturday's semifinals, was led by Ellie Wilkerson (15 points) and Nyshae' Weaver (14 potints, eight rebounds.)

The Elite Eight begins on Monday, March 24 at the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse in Pittsburgh, Pa., with seeds to be determined by the Division II Women's Basketball Committee.
 

SEMIFINALS

IUP defeats Edinboro, 67-52


IUP's Ellie Wilkerson exploded for 24 points, four three-pointers, seven rebounds, and four steals to help IUP upset top-seeded Edinboro, 67-52. The Crimson Hawks' Shamia Strayhorn added 18 points to help the effort. Edinboro's Morgan Gentile (18 points) and Hayley Sims (16 points) led the Fighting Scots.

Gannon defeats Seton Hill, 80-70

Seton Hill had a halftime lead over Gannon but the Golden Knights came from behind to win, 80-70, behind performances from Kate Ratliff (21 points, nine rebounds) and Bri Claxon (18 points.) Seton Hill's Hallie Cowan scored a game-high 29 points with six three-pointers.
 

QUARTERFINALS

Seton Hill defeats Kutztown, 87-75


Seton Hill advanced to the Atlantic Region Semifinals with an 87-75 win over Kutztown. Seton Hill's Mia Kalich scored a team-high 20 points with nine rebounds and four steals, while Kutztown's Naia Pulliam (29 points) and Abbey Hearn (21 points) led the Golden Bears.

Gannon defeats Fayetteville St., 60-50

Gannon advanced with a 60-50 victory over Fayetteville St. Gannon's Bri Claxon led all scorers with 17 points. The Golden Knights will face Seton Hill on Saturday evening at 5 PM.

Edinboro defeats Virginia St., 80-68

Edinboro is moving on as well after the 80-68 win over Virginia State. Five Fighting Scots were in double figures -- Gabby McDuffie (16 pts), Morgan Gentile (15), Rachel Manfredo (14), Ashten Boggs (11), and Hayley Sims (10).

IUP defeats Fairmont St., 76-59

IUP defeated Fairmont St., 76-59, to make it an All-PSAC semifinal round at the Atlantic Regional. IUP's Nyshae' Weaver led all scorers with 18 points, while Shamia Strayhorn added 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Gannon will play Seton Hill on Saturday at 5 PM while Edinboro and IUP face off at 7:30 PM.

 

INDIANAPOLIS - Five Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference women's basketball programs were selected to compete in the 2025 NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Championship, as announced by the NCAA late Sunday night.

The No. 1 seed in the Atlantic Region is Edinboro (24-6 overall), who finished as the runner-up of the 2025 PSAC Championship game. The Fighting Scots will host a four-team regional and face No. 8 seed Virginia State in the quarterfinals.
 
The other pair of teams playing at Edinboro's regional are No. 4 seed IUP (21-7 overall) and No. 5 seed and MEC champion Fairmont St.

In the other half of the bracket, the No. 2-seeded Gannon Golden Knights (25-6 overall) will play No. 7 seed Fayetteville St. while a pair of PSAC teams will do battle in the final quarterfinal: No. 3 seed Seton Hilll (23-6) and No. 6 seed and PSAC Champion Kutztown (22-11).
