The under-the-radar Slippery Rock field hockey team continued its undefeated season with another victory last week by defeating Millersville in its PSAC opener, 2-1. SRU, which is one of just two teams in Division II without a loss this season, was led defensively by Sam Black. The Rock’s goalkeeper was credited with six saves. In what was the pivotal moment in the game, Black made two saves in four seconds during the end of the third quarter to keep the game in a 1-1 deadlock prior to Slippery Rock converting the game-winning goal in the fourth quarter for the program’s first win over Millersville since 2007. No PSAC goalie had more saves in a winning effort last week than Black’s six on the road vs. the Marauders.
